Audiences change depending on the type of venue and, for performers, becoming versatile and proficient are absolutely necessary. Audiences at sports bars, night clubs, fairs, festivals and concert halls are entirely different than audiences at restaurants, weddings, banquets, social halls or senior living communities. Each venue type demands specific song selection and presentation protocol. I’ve always enjoyed performing and I always look forward to the challenge of pleasing whoever might be listening. My anticipation of any audience depends on whether or not it’s a debut or return performance where folks already know and like my music. Regardless of the venue, my primary goal is to make the best impression possible, win folks over and give customers what they want. Personally, I’ve always preferred an attentive or listening audience. However, the moment you realize all ears and every pair of eyes in the room are directed at you, it can be more than intimidating and yet most rewarding.
