A singer/songwriter is first a musician, a poet, a storyteller, conscientious observer, and so much more, with something to say, transforming words into meaningful lyrics and setting them to music.
"To all of the singers and writers of tunes, in doubt of their chances and of what they can do. Just keep on going and prove them all wrong ... singing and playing for the sake of the songs."
Gary David Reece
For me, there is no better sound or tone. It can be a step up for an appreciative audience and requires a certain technique to capture their amazing sound. My first guitar was a 12-string. Many players find them uncomfortable to play consistently. As challenging as they might be, I prefer the larger sound they produce. However, it's understandable why those lightning-fast players prefer a six-string guitar. Through the years I've owned and sold many guitars. I only keep the best and only sold one I regret selling. It was a Gibson Les Paul Triumph Recording Bass Guitar. It was as heavy as a boat anchor, but it played so nice and had so many different tones with only the flip of a switch at the controls. Today, I have more than two dozen guitars, mostly 12-strings, and each is a favorite for specific reasons. The Alvarez is a favorite because it was what I could afford when I began switching from Bass Guitar. I enjoy all the instruments in my collection because of associated memories, but primarily because of the way they play and sound. Each has a unique feel and voice. It's the reason I take three or four on the road and use a specific guitar for certain songs. I have a great relationship with them and appreciate the role they've played in my life as an entertainer and with audiences who appreciate listening to great instruments.
